Color & Learn, a series of paintings and drawings by John Zoller, is based on images the artist has culled from American educational coloring books. The series explores an idealized indoctrinated American vision, as taught to children, and all its implications. Zoller uses an array of children’s school arts and craft materials, such as glitter, pom poms, pipe cleaners, mirrors and other media to give his work a more layered sense of dimensionality. These works, while seductively colorful and seemingly cheery, address various complex societal issues.
